A BRIEF HISTORY

1873 – Delta Gamma was founded by Eva Webb Dodd, Anna Boyd Ellington and Mary Comfort Leonard
at the Lewis School in Oxford, Mississippi.
   With a chance meeting between a Phi Delta Theta
from Mississippi and a Phi Delt from Indiana,
George Banta, DG's expansion into the northern states began.  Banta was the only male member empowered
to form chapters in northern schools in good standing.
   Today, there are over 140 chapters throughout the U.S.
and Canada.


MISSION STATEMENT

Delta Gamma offers to women of all ages a rich
heritage based on principles of personal integrity,
personal responsibility and intellectual honesty. 
Its primary purpose is to foster high ideals of friendship, promote educational and cultural interests, create a
true sense of social responsibility and develop
the finest qualities of character.

sym_anchor.png (6343 bytes) The anchor is the traditional symbol for hope and the most recognizable symbol of the Delta Gamma Fraternity.

sym_crest.png (8402 bytes) The crest of Delta Gamma has special meaning to its members.  The colors of the crest are:
• cream for the rose at the apex
• gold for the three five-pointed stars on the shield and around the shield and outline of the scroll ribbon
• burnt maize for the flanking ornaments of the rose and the Greek letters, Tau Delta Eta
• blue for the lower two-thirds of the shield
• green for the upper third and center section and the leaves of the rose
• rose for the Greek letters Delta Gamma which appear on the center section.
sym_badge.png (8024 bytes) The official badge is worn only by initiated members.  In 1887, it was changed from the "H" to the anchor, which is the traditional symbol for hope.
sym_motto.png (8894 bytes) The Fraternity motto is "Do Good."
colors.png (1786 bytes) The Fraternity colors are bronze, pink and blue.
